Some watercolor portraits

Some watercolor portrait sketches on Arches A4 paper.

 Above: sketched with pencil first

Above: No preliminary pencil sketch - just painted straight on.

Above: Just painted - no preliminary pencil sketch. For a just a quick, straight watercolour sketch, I'm pretty happy with it.

After dinner portrait

I seized a short space of free time and did a quick watercolor portrait. Note to self - use a  HB pencil next time instead of a 2B!

300 gsm Archers watercolour paper, A5 size. Daniel Smith watercolours from my amazing penpal Kerrie-ann.

Some more portraits

I'm finding it hard to get time to draw at all for months now. So, with much effort, I'm just trying to draw anything whenever I get a moment.

Some quick straight watercolor sketches.

And finally, a bit of mail art.

Some quick sketches

I'm so out of practice sketching. I've decided to try and do some quick sketches everyday again.

Biro sketch

I did this sketch a little while back, and have been working on developing backgrounds rather than just doing faces.

I'm not sure if I will develop this into a painting. But if I did I would call it Final Journey. I thought the woman in the drawing looked like she was saying goodbye. I drew a misty Cape Reinga behind her, with the lighthouse like a ghost image, as Cape Reinga is a place from where the Maori souls would leap towards the Underworld.

Before adding the background.

Some biro sketches

Some sketches with a plain old blue biro. Sugar paper.
Above: before the background.
Below after the background. Funny how the paper photographed differently this time.

Some biro sketches before the background has been done.

Another 5 min breakfast sketch. Practising tones in watercolour, and sketching straight with the brush (no initial pencil drawings).

Quick conte sketch

Quick sketch with Conte over dessert. I'm not sure sugar paper was the right choice for this as it makes the shading so coarse.

Pastel portrait #2

I'm feeling a little meh over this one.

Pastel portraits

Some pastel portraits. I prefer using the wrong side of the paper above. I did some studies on the right side of the Canson pastel paper below, just to try it out.
