Sketching at Oriental Parade

I went to the Wellington Sketchers meetup at Oriental Parade on the weekend and we sketched on the roof of the Fisherman's Table restaurant. It was a lovely crisp winter day.

Above: Looking east. I practised holding the pen like a paintbrush, which is one of the methods of sketching suggested in the sketching book I am reading at the moment. Mmm. Not 100% sure about this idea, but maybe it just takes more practice!

Mail art: Seedlings

Another mail art envelope (front and back):

This is a looser style of drawing that what I normally do, where you hold the pen as if it is a paint brush.

Mail art: Trebuchet

Some mail art with a sketch of a trebuchet in action. I couldn't quite get a source photo of a trebuchet in action from this angle, so I winged it a bit... I think I might have drawn it backwards, but I guess you have to imagine the big heavy weight swinging the full spectrum all the way to the back, then it might (possibly) be plausible... The sender bit is meant to be a rock's eye view from the bucket of the trebuchet. Not quite sure that I pulled this off.

Sketching at Petone

I didn't make it to Petone for the Winter Festival, so I thought I would drop by today and sketch around Petone wharf.

I could have stayed longer and sketched more, but again, felt like it wasn't really coming together. Mmmm....

Petone Wharf  (on a different day)

Civic Square sketches

I went to the Wellington Sketchers meetup at Civic Square earlier this month. We meant to sketch in the Art Gallery but sketched outside while the weather remained  OK.

I wasn't that keen on my sketches today. I feel a bit like my sketching mojo is at a low ebb...

Above: one of the wooden bird sculptures on the City to Sea Bridge.

Above: a sketch of the table and chairs outside the cafe by the lagoon. Lovely cafe, but I'm a bit meh about the sketch.

Above: One of the roofs in Civic Square. These are just air conditioning ducts, but I just loved how they looked like some sort of sentient creature peaking out nervously over the roof.

Some more sketches

A few sketches from my garden. Above: our coconut husk bird feeder. Below: the garden chair.

Some sketches of some women at work.

Below: boy looking down.

These were all done with Noodlers black ink, and either my copperplate Osmiroid fountainpen, or the Schaeffer fountain pen (medium nib).
